Somaliland is a self-declared state that is not officially recognized by the United Nations or by any other country. While Somalia, the larger state from which Somaliland declared independence, has been plagued by violence and terrorism for the past two decades, Somaliland has remained relatively peaceful and stable. Somalilanders are eager to be recognized as a sovereign nation, but their sovereignty is not internationally recognized.
