Depending on your arrival time, you'll either embark on city sightseeing if you reach in the morning or afternoon, or enjoy a relaxed evening at your hotel if you arrive late. Notable Sightseeing Highlights: If your schedule allows, maximize your first day in Addis Ababa by including these top highlights in your itinerary: 1. National Museum of Ethiopia: Immerse yourself in Ethiopia's rich cultural history at the National Museum, home to ancient artifacts and the famous fossil of Lucy, the oldest hominid ever discovered. 2. Holy Trinity Cathedral: Visit the impressive Orthodox cathedral, the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie and other key figures in Ethiopia's history. 3. Your journey continues from Addis Ababa as you board a flight to Semera. From Semera, you will depart for Hamedilla, with scheduled departures typically around 9:30 or 10:30 am. The journey to Hamedilla, passing through Afdera, encompasses approximately 4-5 hours of travel time. In the Afar region, Afdera stands as a small town with a population of roughly 10,000 residents. While this region may present challenging conditions, including rugged coastlines and harsh terrain, it compensates with its captivating natural wonders, a diverse array of colors, mineral-rich elements, saltwater springs, and numerous bubbling oil lakes displaying a kaleidoscope of hues. The altitudes here vary, with most locations situated more than 100 meters below sea level. A stopover for lunch will be made in the town of Afdera before continuing your journey to Hamedilla. Along the way, you will be treated to a stunning array of landscapes and an opportunity to gain insights into the culture and lifestyle of the local population. As the day draws to a close, a sunset cruise on Salt Lake Assale, situated at an astonishing -121 meters below sea level, is a truly memorable experience. You will then camp at Hamedilla, allowing you to relish the beauty of the setting sun. Overnight accommodations will be provided in the form of camping at Hamedilla.

DAY 3:
HAMEDILLA - DALOL - ERTA ALE

In the early morning, embark on a drive to Dalol, a region known for its diverse water springs and surreal landscapes. Among the remarkable attractions you'll encounter are the sulfur lake, oil lake, the salt mining area featuring camel caravans, and towering salt mountains, among others. Within the mining area, you'll have the opportunity to observe the traditional salt extraction process, where workers painstakingly extract salt from the earth and load it onto camels. Local guides and experts well-acquainted with the area will accompany you, providing valuable insights into each site. Following your exploration of Dalol, you will continue your journey to Erta Ale, where you will spend the night, camping under the captivating starry skies. Overnight accommodations will be provided in the form of camping at Erta Ale.

ERTA ALE - LAKE AFDERA - SEMRA - ADDIS ABABA
In the early morning, precisely at 5:30 am, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the captivating activities of the volcano in the brilliant daylight. The return trek to the camp will take approximately 30 minutes, leading you through a desert landscape adorned with scattered small desert trees and igneous rocks, remnants of the volcano's eruptions over many years. Upon reaching Askoma camp, a hearty breakfast will be served, providing much-needed nourishment after the morning's adventure. Following a well-deserved hour of rest, you will commence preparations for cooking and gather all essential sleeping materials. Next on the agenda is a visit to Lake Afdera, where you will enjoy a delightful lunch. This saltwater lake offers the perfect setting for a refreshing swim. Afterward, your journey will lead you back to Semera, where you will board a flight for your return to Addis Ababa, concluding this unforgettable adventure.
